Welcome to Seaton & Linksfield Community Council

About The Community Council

Our remit

Community councils are voluntary, statutory organizations run by local residents to act as a voice for their area, bridging the gap between local communities and local authorities. They represent local views on issues like planning and licensing, aiming to improve their community’s wellbeing and quality of life.

Key Aspects of Community Councils:

  • Purpose: To ascertain, express, and act upon the views of the local community to local authorities and other public bodies.
  • Representation: They are non-party political, representing all residents in their area.
  • Statutory Rights: They have a legal right to be consulted on local planning applications and licensing.
  • Activities: They often engage in projects to improve their area and can manage community funds.
  • Structure: They are comprised of volunteer community councillors who live in the area.

These bodies provide a platform for local people to have a tangible impact on decisions affecting their neighbourhood.

Where we are located

We are a legal statutory body. As such all our members have to come from the Seaton and Linksfield area which is “Officially” bounded by King street in the West, the sea in the East the Don estuary/nature reserve in the North and a line running down Linksfield Road to the sea in the South.

Please see the map below for clarification.
